AMPLITUDE

For the moment , let’s realize that everything knowledge

of the intimacy of things is immediately a poem.
Gaston Bachelard

The amplitude of the horizon extends it prolongs it intensifies it is
a porous line, a border between what was and what will be.
For the artist the horizon is broad infinite. Seeking to bring our
sensibility towards the amplitude of the impossible, the artist
suggests that drawing a horizon is a poetic gesfure that only exists
in the extension of the imagination.
For this sensitive subject
defining the horizon is going beyond the view, it is transcending
the gaze, it is an attempt to conceptualize and to imagine the
limits of the ethereal through the visual.

The work of Gabriel Rodríguez evokes questions while challenging

us as spectators to make the impossible gesture of embracing or possessing the intangible; the air, the horizon the sun a cloud.

The horizon is always memory and is constantly regenerated in the present as an illusion, as a gesture of the imagination.

Rodríguez himself tells us: “Memory is something that immanently obliges us to remember. An event that surprises us and that is recorded immediately without asking our reason if we want to consider it.”

On a table we see a trajectory drawn, it is the memory of the present and the present in the memory, it is a composition of gestures represented by the drawing to draw by blowing, to draw by cutting, to draw by scraping, to draw by walking. Gabriel leaves from reminiscence as a trigger to the metaphorical production of his work, he tells us.
“But there were remnants of this love of volcanoes press cuttings some plates stones collected in ascents to the volcano and two boxes with volcanic ash of the year 1998.”
For this artist the sun is no longer just a luminous star that illuminates the day to day but rather a light brush that paints and unpaint the paper, which draws and desdraws what was not in what is. From inside

Gabriel shows us that it is his particular sensitivity and connection to external things that moves him, what inspires him, what pushes him to create. “My nervous system is telepathically connected with the outside.” He says “Amplitude” is a personal synthesis of the artist, it is a sample that brings us closer to a collection of intimacies represented in the context of exteriority.

On 2017 I found some stones and ashes from a big
volcano eruption that i collected in 1998 when
Pacaya volcano erupted so hard the ashes came to
Guatemala City, 50 kms abroad. 20 years later I
returned the ashes to their original place.

Press paper discoloration
101cm X 152cm

The Press paper was installed under the sun for several hour with a cardboard cast of a circle, so the sun
would discolor only the circle creating it´s own portrait.
The paper works as a solar panel but discoloring.
