NOVEMBER 2021 - FEBRUARY 2022
This is not an exhibition; rather, it is a means to use this space to make things visible more than just to show a collection of
art pieces. In an attempt to combat Eurocentric individualism, as a result of our decolonial criticism, we chose to create work from a different location using a variety of collective voices. This group of projects presents a question and aims to reverse everything that this independence from the Kings of Spain means, rather than simply commemorating the 200 years of independence from Spain and the founding of the nation-state of what is now known as Guatemala.
In a way, neither the procedures of colonization nor the process of independence can be fully undone, but we may start to
free ourselves from some restrictions. How can we think of ourselves beyond this Spanish language? Can we talk, think, and feel through other languages? Can we without the need to understand, feel?
The exhibition All of us are many, which aims to recreate the sounds and appearances of an indigenous communal approach, has been in our line of sight for more than 500 years. In reaction, this exhibition makes an effort to present groups, choirs,
and ensemble voices in order to smash the ego of the author, exhibitor, and individual creator.
The individual category is so capitalist that the ego (the One) constantly seeks out the competition. In order to create a new paradigm where the ecologies of information and sentiments might create a new existence free of the One, we strive to
invert the evolutionary concept that whoever survives is the strongest.
"If you're okay, I'm okay" might be used to replace: "I think therefore I am."
